Last night during the North Herts Council meeting I was speaking up for Knebworth residents in a debate about the A1(M). We managed to get a motion agreed that calls on the Leader of the Council to write to the Government and MPs to address capacity issues on the A1(M).
Action is needed to provide solutions after a decade of government dithering over A1(M) widening that brings traffic chaos to our village every time the motorway here has any capacity reduction, such as the sink holes in March and September 2024 that required emergency closures.
Even now, before more new homes are built here, the existing lack of capacity on the A1(M) creates an additional burden on the B197 through Knebworth and frequent traffic jams we all get stuck in. The county’s transport plan also anticipated that A1(M) improvements would reduce vehicle numbers on the B197 to help promote more cycling and walking – this has not happened.
I will keep on fighting for a fair deal for our residents on this and other issues.
